CATEGORIES

The competition is open to all local, national and international amateur riders, both women and men, that are at least 18 years old and is divided in the following categories:

 Men aged 18 to 29 (B1)

 Men aged 30 to 39 (B2)

 Men aged 40 to 49 (B3)

 Men aged 50 to 59 (B4)

 Men aged 60+ (B5)

 Women aged 18 to 29 (F1)

Women aged 30 to 39 (F2)

Women aged 40 to 49 (F3)

Women aged 50 to 59 (F4)

Women aged 60+ (F5)

The beautiful region of Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania welcomes you to TRANSFĂGĂRĂȘAN CHALLENGE. The 2nd edition of the competition pledges to be again an exciting event fuelled by adrenaline. Specially designed for amateur riders. The challenge will take place on the 4th of July 2022 and it will be a pre-race event opening for the pros stage of the competition, within the Sibiu Cycling Tour. The second edition of the Transfăgărășan Challenge promises to be one of the toughest amateur cycling races in Romania, and the participants will get the chance to enjoy riding on one of the most exciting roads in the world.

The Transfăgărășan mountain road was built in the 1970s by the communist regime of Romania serving the purpose of a strategic defense and military route and connecting the historic regions of Wallachia and Transylvania. It is 91 km long and reaches a peak altitude of 2.042m. Nowadays, the Transfăgărășan is a popular tourist attraction, offering spectacular views during the summertime and unforgettable alpine experiences in winter. The road passes close to the most important peaks of the Făgăraș mountains, the highest mountain range of the Romanian Carpathians.

Get ready to admire spectacular mountain scenery with bald peaks, glacial lakes, stunning valleys, rapid falls, and breathtaking heights. The competition is open to all those who want to test their limits but also to those who just want to feel the adrenaline of a real contest. Undoubtedly, Transfăgărășan Challenge will offer everyone the experience of a professional race. We invite all amateur cyclists and cycling sports clubs to ride the 37 km of the Transfăgărășan Challenge, starting from Albota and ending at Bâlea Lac, on the most iconic and stunning road in Romania.
