THE 4TH EDITION OF THE TRANSFĂGĂRĂȘAN CHALLENGE WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE 8TH OF JULY 2024
ONE OF THE TOUGHEST AMATEUR CYCLING CHALLENGES IN ROMANIA
1 DAY STAGE, 37 KILOMETERS, AND 1570m ELEVATION

CATEGORIES

The competition is open to all local, national and international riders (with or without a license), both women and men,
which are at least 17 years old and are divided into the following categories:

Men aged 17-29 years
(Junior + U23 + Elite) + Masters belonging to a continental, pro continental or world tour team, regardless of age
(PRO-M)

Men aged 17-29
(Amateurs with or without a license) (B1)

Men aged 30 and 39 years old
(Amateurs with or without a license + Master’s degree not included in PRO-M) (B2)

Men aged 40 to 49 years
(Amateurs with or without a license + Master’s degree who do not belong to PRO-M) (B3)

Men aged 50 to 59 years
(Amateurs with or without a license + Master’s not in PRO-M) (B4)

Men aged 60+
(Amateurs with or without a license + Master’s degree not covered by PRO-M) (B5)

Women aged 17-29 years
(Junior + Elite) + Masters belonging to a continental, pro continental or world tour team, regardless of age

Women aged 17-29

Junior men/women = licensed cyclists, minimum age 17 years (completed by 08.07.2024) and up to 19 years.
U23 men = licensed cyclists, minimum age 19 years (by 08.07.2024) and up to 22 years.
Elite men = licensed cyclists, aged 23 years (by 08.07.2024) up to 30 years.
Elite women = licensed cyclists, aged 19 years (by 08.07.2024) up to 30 years.
Master men/women = licensed cyclists aged 30 years (completed by 08.07.2024) and up to 60+ years.

! If a minimum of 5 people do not register for a competition category, those competitors will be placed in the next category.

The beautiful region of Sibiu, Transylvania, Romania welcomes you to TRANSFĂGĂRĂȘAN CHALLENGE. The 4th edition of the competition pledges to be again an exciting event fuelled by adrenaline. Specially designed for amateur riders. The challenge will take place on the 8th of July 2024 and it will be a pre-race event opening for the pros stage of the competition, within the Sibiu Cycling Tour. The 3rd edition of the Transfăgărășan Challenge promises to be one of the toughest amateur cycling races in Romania, and the participants will get the chance to enjoy riding on one of the most exciting roads in the world.

The Transfăgărășan mountain road was built in the 1970s by the communist regime of Romania serving the purpose of a strategic defense and military route and connecting the historic regions of Wallachia and Transylvania. It is 91 km long and reaches a peak altitude of 2.042m. Nowadays, the Transfăgărășan is a popular tourist attraction, offering spectacular views during the summertime and unforgettable alpine experiences in winter. The road passes close to the most important peaks of the Făgăraș mountains, the highest mountain range of the Romanian Carpathians.

Get ready to admire spectacular mountain scenery with bald peaks, glacial lakes, stunning valleys, rapid falls, and breathtaking heights. The competition is open to all those who want to test their limits but also to those who just want to feel the adrenaline of a real contest. Undoubtedly, Transfăgărășan Challenge will offer everyone the experience of a professional race. We invite all amateur cyclists and cycling sports clubs to ride the 37 km of the Transfăgărășan Challenge, starting from Albota and ending at Bâlea Lac, on the most iconic and stunning road in Romania.
